About the District
Huon Gulf District is one of the key districts of Morobe Province, strategically positioned along the southeastern coastline and serving as a vital link between Lae City, the Markham Valley and the northern coastal communities. The district is home to diverse cultures, rich natural resources and a growing population spread across Wampar, Salamaua and Morobe Rural LLGs.
Its economy is driven by agriculture, fisheries, forestry, transport and tourism, supported by major infrastructure such as the Lae–Nadzab Highway and Nadzab International Airport. The district’s unique geography — from coastal lowlands to rugged peninsulas — shapes its development priorities and opportunities.
